Genshin Impact recently released its next big update with Natlan 5.0. This newest update has come with an arrangement of new QoL changes, more rewards, and a FREE 5 STAR! Which to be honest is crazy because Genshin Impact is infamous for its “stinginess.” I think there might be several factors influencing developer miHoYo’s stance on rewarding players in Genshin Impact.
Wuthering Waves launched on May 22, 2024 with terrible bugs including awful translation(at least to the English version), poor VA audio quality, and no controller support. Over the past few months, Kuro Games has been listening to player feedback, adding plenty of rewards and outright giving a free 5 star because of the mishaps from the launch. Kuro Games is constantly working on improving WuWa, which is now on version 1.2, and giving away another free 5 star character
This past year Genshin Impact had disastrous Lantern Rite rewards, and also debuffed and rebuffed one of the most meta characters. It also has the overall worst weapon gachas in the genre. There have been so many complaints over the years that Genshin Impact has fallen behind and that the developers don’t care about the player base.
In the 5.0 Natlan Special Program and at the Genshin Impact FES 2024 on August 16th, the development team, specifically miHoYo CEO Da Wei, talked about how they had been experiencing anxiety and confusion this past year. So at the beginning of 2024, Da Wei and his team went around China and several other countries to specifically talk to Genshin Impact players. Da Wei speaks on how that helped him and his team make better decisions for the future of Genshin Impact.
Did having WuWa (direct competition), 3 sister games (HI:3, HSR, ZZZ), and customer complaints actually make the Genshin Impact team see the need to change its ways? I’d like to think so.
